More than '15 million people registered' for 2010 polls

(Mirayafm)

The National Elections Commission (NEC) has announced that more than 15 million people have registered to vote in next year's polls. This brings to 80% the number of registered voters in Sudan. At a news conference in Khartoum, the head of NEC's Registration Committee, Al Hadi Mohamed Ahmed said about 57% of the money spent during the registration exercise was provided by the Sudanese government, while 43% came from donors.

Meanwhile, the  commission has opened its media centre in Khartoum on Sunday. Speaking at the ceremony, NEC Chairman, Abel Alier said the centre would provide immediate press services to give up-to-date information to journalists during the electoral process. He said there would be free, fair and a transparent election.
