JEM ready to end hostilities in Darfur

Prominent Darfuri armed faction, the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) appear ready to ink an agreement with the Sudanese government in Chad. JEM and Sudanese government delegates have agreed on hostility cessation in Darfur, provisions for development and services, and the demilitarization of JEM’s armed faction.
Secretary of organization in the National Congress Party (NCP), Haj Majid Siwar, told Miraya FM that a cessation of hostilities agreement is expected to be signed either on Saturday or Sunday in N'Djamena.
Siwar elaborated that JEM’s proposals entailed development and provision of necessary services in Kordofan State and disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) programs for JEM’s military personnel after ceasefire.
Speaking to Miraya FM, Head of JEM's office in Washington, Motasem Ahmed Salih, said the agreement signed in Chad will contribute to finding a solution to Darfur's crisis.
Salih added that only Darfur’s main issues have been settled and will be signed. He said preliminary agreements that should have been signed in Chad’s capital, N’Djamena, on Saturday has not occurred.
Salih further said that talks will continue in Doha, in the presence of international mediators, President of Chad, Idriss Deby and Sudan’s President, Omar Al Bashir.
Meanwhile, JEM's spokesperson, Ahmed Hussein arrived in N'Djamena on Saturday to head a delegation. Another delegation from JEM: the delegation that has been engaged in Doha, is expected to convene in N'Djamena as well.
Hussein is expected to preside over the signing ceremony between Sudanese Presidential Advisor and official in charge of the Darfur file, Ghazi Salaheddin and JEM's chairman, Khalil Ibrahim.
On Friday, President of the Republic, Omar Al Bashir announced that an agreement with JEM could be signed under the auspices of Chadian President Idriss Deby, soon.
