(Mirayafm) Southern Sudan’s economy received a boost on Tuesday as members of the Arab League convened in Juba to explore investment potentials with First Vice President Salva Kiir Mayardit touting to League members Southern Sudan’s attractive investment opportunities. The Arab League Conference on Investment and Development in Southern Sudan began with Amr Moussa, Secretary General of the Arab League States, reaffirming the League’s commitment to Southern Sudan’s development. He stated in his opening address that League members present in Juba are business leaders representing many diverse fields. They will explore the feasibility of investment and development projects that are of Arab origins, that can contribute to the region’s economy. Moussa also announced awarding annual scholarships by the Arab League to students who excel academically. Emphasizing investment potentials in Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir on Tuesday expounded on the tremendous resources available to investors in Southern Sudan. He accounted for the large animal population in the south: 12 million cattle and 20 million sheep and goats as compared to 11 million Southern Sudanese. Salva Kiir further stated that Southern Sudan has the highest human to animal ratio. He also described to Arab League members the vast agricultural and mineral opportunites that can be further developed in the south. The First Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) added that 70% of petroleum revenue are generated to wealth. The conference brings together investors from different Arab countries to network and discuss with GoSS representatives and Southern Sudan’s business community on investing in Southern Sudan.
