Staff of the Southern Sudan Television and Radio on Friday warned that they would go on strike, beginning on Monday this week, over non-payment of twelve months of house rent allowances since last year.
The statement assured that the issue of the arrears would be resolved by the government.
The Office of the President said it acknowledged the right of the staff to receive their allowances, explaining that the decision to pay civil servants the house rent allowances was passed by the Council of Ministers and “must be fulfilled.”
It explained that the cabinet took the decision to provide house rent allowances after studying the difficult conditions the civil servants were facing for their accommodations.
The statement said most of the institutions of the government paid their staff since last year, adding this was done without the pressure of having to go on strike first.

Prior the Last Leap
(Opinion)
Sudan became within the ace of elections date and the citizens will proceed towards ballot boxes to say its word and give their votes to whom they think are qualified to transform its dreams into reality for better live.
The people will come in the coming few days to practice their right and vote in an election date stipulated in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement five years ago.
The upcoming elections come to fulfill the democratic transformation pledges of the parliament that represented all the political rainbow colours.
It is known that all steps towards the democratic transformation were complete after endorsing all the bills related to the issue.
According to the National Elections Commission the voters' registration this time is much more than the previous registration experiences in Sudan's history.
However, the voters' registration with almost half the population is but an indicator for an effective participation and complete interaction towards the event.
The elections campaigns also witnessed intensive participations from the citizens to listen to the candidates and their political programmes.
Citizens will go to the ballot boxes with full confidence as the elections will be monitored by the international community through the monitoring missions arrived in the country, together with the correspondents of the mass media to cover the event day by day and hour by hour.
Citizens will go to the ballot boxes to achieve their aspirations in the democratic transformation after five years of waiting these moments.
The serious political parties entered into the elections process through its propaganda and campaigns taking steady steps towards the final round of the political struggle after which a democratic elected government will be formed according to the results of the elections.
As for those asleep political parties which are calling for elections postponement, the clever Sudanese voters know their interests and well know that nobody will benefit from the postponement.
Our advice to those political forces is to complete their preparations instead of looking for excuses to postpone the elections; otherwise it will be thrown into the history dustbin.
Prior the last leap all Sudanese voters are asked for more constructive interaction and positive participation to send a clear message to the world that we are a civilized nation that deserves all the respect.
