(Mirayafm) The International Landmines Day was observed in Juba on Tuesday.While addressing the occasion, the UN Representative, David Saunders, said that more than 19,000 anti-personnel land mines and 800,000 unexploded ordnances have been destroyed in southern Sudan. Saunders said that mines awareness education has been given to over four million people in southern Sudan. Meanwhile; the European Union Head of Officer in Juba, Jesus Baguena, said that Anti personnel and explosive remnants of war continue to pose a significant threat. Baguena said that the EU has donated 20 million Euros to mine action and five million euros has been allocated to Southern Sudan to support capacity building. He said the threat of landmines hampered the return of refugees, agricultural activities and the economic recovery in the south
