More allegations of electoral rigging as tensions rise in Unity State
(Mirayafm)
As Unity State's newly elected Governor Taban Deng celebrated his victory amid violence and insecurity, one of his rivals during the governorship race, Angelina Teny has blasted the results as "untrue", describing the outcome as "rigged". The independent candidate released a statement on Saturday, denouncing the results, stating the she will neither recognize nor accept votes that have been falsified.
Speaking to Radio Miraya, Teny condemned the violent outbreak that followed the announcement of the results.  Teny stressed that she was concerned for her supporters who worked with her during the elections and whom she alleged were tortured afterwards.
Ms Teny further alleged that her supporters, some who are tribal chiefs, were arrested in Fariam on Friday and that her political office has also been closed.
Teny added that she was leaving Unity State with many grievances over how the electoral process was conducted and worries for her supporters.
Meanwhile, the elected Governor of Unity State, Taban Deng, called on Teny to accept the electoral results.
Speaking to Radio Miraya, Deng denied allegations of electoral rigging, adding that the result expresses the will of the people.  He said that his victory is also a victory for his party, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM).
Deng further stated that the victory is a triumph over the years of struggle and war that the SPLM endured.  He promised that the SPLM will continue to to develop the region and maintain peace for all in Unity State.
Contrary to his optimistic outlook, several political parties have called on the Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Abel Alier, to intervene and resolve mounting tensions in Unity State.
The parties allege, in a released statement, widespread rigging in the polling process and called for a re-count of the ballots.
Radio Miraya's correspondent reporting from Bentieu town of Unity State, Sebit Abdu, has also stated that the security situation in the state appears unstable as citizens still fear more violent outbreaks.
Abdu reported that two of the wounded have been transferred to another part of the state and are being treated by Medicine Sans Frontiers, while two others have remained in Bentieu and are being treated for mild injuries.  The dead, Abdu reported, were buried on Saturday afternoon.
According to Abdu, a statement released by the Acting Governor stated that the State's chief of security will be collaborating with all political parties to maintain peace in the area.  The Acting Governor further stated that there were only four injured after Friday's incident, instead of the reported five.
Earlier reports on Friday stated that at least two people were killed and five wounded in Bentieu, after SPLM candidate and incumbent Governor, Taban Deng, won the governorship race.
Taban received 137,662 votes whereas Angelina Teny received 63, 561 votes.

Ethiopian PM meets with visiting Sudanese official
(ST)
The Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi met today with a Sudanese delegation led by presidential assistant Nafie Ali Nafie.
The Ethiopian official news agency (ENA) said the two parties discussed on ways as to how enhance the existing relations of the two countries but offered no details.
The visit follows another previously unannounced one by Salva Kiir made to Addis Ababa a week ago in his capacity as president of South Sudan.
Zenawi at the time expressed hopes that all the parties in Sudan would be satisfied with the elections that took place this month but for which results have yet to be announced.
Nafie’s visit could also be related to the escalating tensions between Nile basin countries on one side and Egypt and Sudan on the other.
The Egyptian and Sudanese government rejected attempts by the other countries to reallocate the shares of the Nile river stipulated by the 1929 and 1959 water agreements. Egypt insists on maintaining its share of 55.5 billion cubic meters of water from the river — more than half of the Nile’s flow.
Egypt also wants veto power over any new irrigation projects undertaken by the other nine riparian states.

The Responsibility of the NCP
(Opinion)
As the National Elections Commission (NEC) is heading towards announcement of the final results of the general elections, it is obvious from what is announced in the previous days that the NCP candidates swept the majority of the constituencies in all levels.
The results received from the polling stations and announced by the NEC in the pervious days were not of any surprise as Al Bashir came on top of the list in the presidency race inside and outside the country.
This victory for the NCP is but a proof of the NCP popularity amongst the Sudanese citizens as the latter voted in favour of the party of the qualified leadership and capabilities.
However, the victory requires from the NCP to work out a plan to achieve the aspirations of the voters who put their confidence on the party.
The NCP cadres were prepared for the current elections four years ago and they are now in preparations for 2014 general elections. It is their duty to meet everyday and regularly to discuss the best means through which the party could boost the satisfaction and confidences of the Sudanese masses as a pioneer political party that can change the lives of the people to the better.
It is good that the NCP was open to all Sudanese avoiding being a party for specific membership, as a lot of Sudanese whose loyalties were not in favour of the NCP had joined the party after they felt that it is a pioneer and well organized party with clear manifesto.

It is high time for the NCP to benefit from the elections results and head with its elected government towards the Sudanese citizens in the four winds.
The votes acquired by Al Bashir in the South could be utilized and doubled in favour of making unity a reality in the referendum for self-determination.
The votes acquired by Al Bashir are Darfur represent a full authorization to speed up resolving the Darfur crisis, hence ending the suffering of the region's people.
The votes acquired by Al Bashir in all Sudan in general represent the aspirations and dreams of the citizens towards a better future in the hands of the political party and manifesto they have chosen.
