Lam Akol rejects South Sudan election results
(ST)
The chairman of the SPLM- Democratic Change Lam Akol, who was Salva Kiir’s challenger for southern Sudan presidency, rejected today the elections results accusing his former party of rigging the vote.
Yesterday the National Elections Commission (NEC) declared the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM)’s chairman Salva Kiir Mayardit President of the southern Sudan government with 93% of the votes while his sole challenger Lam Aokl got 7%.
"The elections were rigged and the percentage of the votes obtained by the president of south Sudan shows this," said the SPLM-DC leader in a press conference held in Khartoum with other leaders of southern Sudan opposition parties as Bona Malual and Joseph Lago.
Akol, who had broken away from his party, SPLM, and established the SPLM-DC in June 2009, was chosen by all the opposition ASSPP to run for presidency of e southern Sudan government.
The members of the SSPPA are: SANU, UDSF, United Democratic Party, SPLM-DC, Sudan National Labor Party, USAP-2, South Sudan Democratic Forum, South-Sudan Democratic Front.
The defeated candidate of the southern opposition further vowed to contest the election results in court demanding to cancel the announced results; adding they established a file for the widespread rigging and irregularities committed by the southern Sudan ruling party.
Lam Also blamed the NEC saying it had no control on the electoral operations in the south where the international observers were absent from the majority of polling stations particularly outside the big centers, according to the PLM-DC chairman.
According to the figures published by the electoral board some ten million Sudanese including 2.8 million in southern Sudan took part in the first multiparty election since 24 years.
This election will be followed by a referendum on southern Sudan self-determination planned to take place in January 2011.
Akol warned that the bad conduct of the elections could impact negatively on the referendum.
"I think the rigging will have a negative impact on the referendum. If people remain silent in the face of this cheating, the referendum itself will be rigged," Akol warned.
Presidential adviser, Bona Maluwal, who is also the leader South Sudan Democratic forum (SSDF) and Joseph Lago former vice president and UDSF leader echoed Akol accusation of fraud and lack of democratic atmosphere in the South.

Southern Parties Congratulate Al Bashir, Denounce South Sudan Polls Results
(SV)
South-South Dialogue Alliance congratulated Al Bashir on his outstanding victory in the elections, conveying satisfaction with the ballot conduction in the North and dismissing the outcome of South Sudan polls at all levels.
In a press conference yesterday at SMC premises, Khartoum, SPLM-DC Chairman, Dr. Lam Akol, said the announced results did not represent the will of southern voters, describing polling there as rigged. He claimed that the SPLA had assumed the functions of the National Elections Commission (NEC) and completely controlled the ballot boxes adding that he was in possession of supporting documents. Violations there, he stated, included intervention of the South Sudan Government officials and SPLA elements to force people to vote in favor of the SPLM, and inquiring about the silence of the NEC in respect to these violations, accusing it of impartiality.
Citing cases of rigging, Akol stated that while his party collected 64,000 votes in the Unity State, final results recorded only 34,000, noting to the victory of the independent candidates in North Bahr Al Ghazal and the fact that the SPLM was in the third position.  According to him the final results were a scandal as the SPLM candidate was announced to have collected three folds of votes over and above the number of registered voters.
He concluded that elections there were a farce and would not really represent the will of southerners.
South-South Dialogue Alliance issued a statement announcing its non recognition of the final results of elections in South Sudan and its intension to file a legal appeal in accordance with the Electoral Act for 2008.

South Sudan Democratic Forum Chief Bona Malwal acknowledged the victory of Al Basher as he had witnessed his campaigning in the region, announcing his support of Al Basher as an elect president. He stressed that the results of the South Sudan elections were fraudulent.
The Salvation Democratic Front Chief, Joseph Malwal regretted the rigging of elections in the region.
The Alliance embraces the Salvation Democratic Front, SOLM-DC, United Democratic Party, United Democratic Front, National Labor Party, Democratic Front of South Sudan, Sano and USAB parties.

Elections Tsunami Cools Down .. What After!
(Opinion)
The elections storm came to an end and every political party now knows its weight. Whatever loud cries over the elections' fraud, that doesn’t disclaim that the candidates who won deserve it and those who failed also deserve it even if they don't accept it.
The final results of the elections with its wins and loses is but a station incorporating the political arena.
The most important issue is the democracy which needs that all the political forces to come out in agreement to sustain it.
The sustainability of democracy is the most important task which should be concentrated on after the stage of announcing the final results of elections.
All the political forces should give their backings to the elections stage and work together to accomplish the democratic process to achieve the political stability.
Accomplishing the democratic process will avail the appropriate environment to resolve the nation's crises in teamwork spirit.
The political forces have their manifestos to resolve the crises of the nation, and the citizens recognized that the promised programmes should achieve the aspirations of the citizens.
The democracy with its free environment enables the political parties to continue in presenting their programmes even if those parties do not meet in a round table negotiations meeting.
Presenting ideas through the different forums will provide the basic component of the political activities.

At this stage the satisfaction of all the ideas and proposals will find its way to be transformed into actions towards resolving all the nation's problems.
The nation's concern is above all the win or loss aspects and as the NCP swept all the constituencies, the ruling party will find a lot of pending issues that need prompt response especially those touching the day-to-day lives of the citizens.
The national issues such as South Sudan referendum, Darfur peace, and Sudan's identity need to be overcome through finding a national concordance or a political set in which all the political ideas are assembled for the benefit of the nation and its people.
The NCP, which acquired the majority in the parliament, should overstep all the psychological obstacles and the lost confidence between it and the rest of the political forces during the elections Tsunami at that stage had gone with the wind with all its goods and bitterness.
Sudanese people are not concerned with the differences between the political parties, but they are only looking for their leaders to care about their problems and resolving it.
