Sudan reiterates commitment to Doha peace process
(ST)
Sudan is committed to the Doha peace process in order to reach a negotiated solution with rebel groups to end the seven year conflict in Darfur region.
Ali Karti Sudan’s state minister for foreign affairs made these remarks in a meeting held on Tuesday with the visiting Japanese official Keitaro Sato, Ambassador in Charge of Peace Building and Refugee-Related Issues in Africa and Special Envoy for UN Reform.
Karti reaffirmed to the Japanese envoy government’s keenness to pursue the ongoing peace process in Doha with the rebel groups in Darfur to achieve peace and stability in the region.
Sudanese government announced last week the departure of its delegation to Doha, to resume peace negotiation with the rebel groups. As the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) has suspended its participation the talks are expected to resume with the Liberation and Justice Movement led by El-Tijani El-Sissi.
Khartoum had said in the past that it would reconsider its participation in the Doha peace process if a peace deal is not concluded before the elections.
The meeting also discussed the after election stage in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. Sato expressed Japan’s willingness to support the organization of the referendum on self determination in southern Sudan and border demarcation.

(SV)
The Minister of Interior , Engineer Ibrahim Mahmood Hamid reaffirmed  that the recurrent violations of Doha  Framework Peace Accord prompted the government to request the Interpol to arrest and handover of Khalil Ibrahim to face the charges raised against him.

Chad to Stage Cultural Caravan to Consolidate Peace with Sudan
(Xinhua)
A cultural caravan will be staged on May 20 in N'Djamena, the capital of Chad, and Abeche, the main town in the east of the African country, to reinforce the peace accord with Sudan, Chadian Minister of Communication Younous Keddalah has said.
"The normalization of relations between Chad and Sudan is a reality. There will be a cultural caravan to reinforce the relations on the ground. There will be concerts whose collections will be donated to orphanages," he told Xinhua on telephone from N'Djamena on Tuesday.
The minister said he will attend the concerts himself.
The two neighboring countries suffered tensions in the past five years amid an exchange of accusations of support for rebels in each other's territory. In mid-January, the two sides concluded a peace accord in the Chadian capital to normalize bilateral relations.
Among trust-building measures, both sides agreed to set up a 3000-strong joint force for border security as from Feb. 20. They have also put up observation posts at Abeche and El-Geneina in the Sudanese region of Darfur.
Three weeks later, during his first official visit to Sudan since July 2004, Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno and his Sudanese counterpart Omer Al Bashir committed themselves to upholding the peace accord signed between their countries.
Deby, described the possibility of dismantling Sudan a major disaster that  would  help fragmenting  other African countries. "It will be the greatest disaster to inflict the African Continent,"   Deby said,  warning that "The fragmentation of Sudan will open the door for fragmentation of other African countries."
In an interview the French Magazine "Jeune Afrique" he cautioned against the secession of South Sudan. "The secession of southern Sudan from the motherland will make it difficult in the future to fight against any separatist movements in the African countries most of which suffer from religious,  tribal and ethnic differences, as well as wealth disparities between regions that belong to the same state."
The Chadian President stressed that he strongly opposed the referendum scheduled for January (January 2011) in southern Sudan "For the simple reason that all the sons of the south and north are the sons of the unified Sudan," adding,  "The only difference is that those who live in the north are Muslims and the others in the south are Christians."
He also stressed the need for "The respect of borders inherited from the colonial era whether good or bad," stressing that "The founding fathers of the Organization of African Unity (now the African Union) were utterly keen to see no tampering with borders inherited from the colonial era and accepted by the Africans as permanent borders of their countries."
He asked, "Why are we trying to degrade the memory of our fathers who stood firmly and decisively against anyone who tried to tamper with borders adopted by the Organization of African Unity?" He cautioned that secession would be the biggest disaster that could inflict Africa since its independence.
Deby was quoted to have said that he could not do anything if that referendum had been actually conducted in South Sudan, asking, "Is it possible for Khartoum government to easily accept losing the South with all its wealth of oil and metals ... I doubt it," warning "If war does not break out   when the sons of the south decide to secede, it will breakout because of  the conflict that might arise in connection with natural  resources sharing between the north and south Sudan."

Steady National Issues and the Historical Reality
(Opinion)
The voicing of the ordeal's consequences reining our nation is not just slogans of shallow excitement. It is a mere advice afar from any intent other than to maintain Sudan as it was a nation for all with the inherited tolerance.
The utterance is to urge the Sudanese of all walks to work to overcome the ordeal with frank dialogue because there are indications that the national entity is subject to explosion a matter that necessitates from all of us to deal with the coming storms with responsible dialogue and direct confrontation to recognize the consequences.
We must go along with the disasters which affected neighbouring countries and the lessons to be learnt to avoid the same fate.
This could only be through serious dialogue over the essential issues.
What is going on these days is not enough as there were no in-depth tackling to the issues and the crisis.
It is true that we managed to overcome the crisis of democratic transformation through the elections, but there are remaining impacts.
We should improve our democratic experience to make the peaceful power transformation principle solid and firm and our opposition forces should accept the new reality instead of its discouraging stances.
However, with thorough examination we will recognize and discover the agendas of those who are working to pass the splintering assumptions.
The demands of the upcoming stage are to sit with good faith with all the national forces to take the necessary action to avoid the disaster which they have discovered its dangerous consequences late.
The issue is crucial and no way for any postponements or dodging and it is our duty towards the nation to avoid any regression that might return us to square one.
The historical steadiness of our nation in coexistence and tolerance should be our reference, so overstepping the stages is unacceptable and we should recognize that our country is on the brink of abyss.
Our leaders must persist in countering the plots targeting a united Sudan through raising awareness of the citizens on the dangerous consequences and threats of secession.
