CPA partners discuss citizenship issue after referendum (Mirayafm) The CPA partners continue post referendum talks on citizenship, nationality and residency by listening to the opinions of several experts on the matter. The SPLM Secretary General, Pagan Amum, said that northerners living in Southern Sudan should continue with their normal life weather the southerners opt for unity or separation and the same should apply to southerners in the north. In a press release following the meetings, Amum expressed optimism in reaching understandings on these issues, clarifying that the negotiations are conducted in a positive spirit. Earlier, Amum confirmed the European Union's promise to accept and respect the referendum results and pledge to provide through the United Nations, $120 million to the Referendum Commission as support to the referendum process. On the other hand, USA has urged the National Referendum Commission to speed up its work, and expressed readiness to provide necessary assistance. This came in the meetings of the US special envoy to Sudan, Scott Gration, with the referendum commission on Monday. While addressing the press, a member of the Commission, Ibrahim Issa, said that members of the Commission will visit the southern states after the formation of its committees. She further affirmed that the Commission is doubling its efforts to determine and implement its programs.
Dr. Ismail Describes ICC as Racist and Adopting Double Standard Method (SUNA) The Presidential Advisor, Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail, Monday held talks in Cairo with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Amro Musa, which included the stance of the Arab League concerning the International Criminal Court (ICC), the negotiations in Doha and the preparations for the referendum of south Sudan in next January In a statement to the press after the meeting, Dr. Ismail said that the government is adherent to the Doha forum for realizing peace in Darfur and will not accept any other forum, adding that the Arab League and Sudan are sharing identical views in this respect He expressed hope that the negotiations in Doha will soon achieve its goal on the light of the positive signals taking place, including the improvement of the Sudanese - Chadian relations, negotiation of a number of Darfurian movements with the government under the title of the Liberation and Justice Movement as well as the positive indicators shown by the leader of Sudan Liberation Movement, Abdul-Wahid Mohamed Nour Dr. Ismail said that he assured the Arab League's Secretary General that Sudan government is maintaining the upper hand in Darfur, and that the Security forces, the Armed Forces and UNAMID are in full control on the security situation in Darfur Meanwhile, Dr. Ismail said that the Sudanese people are giving no concern to the so-called International Criminal Court, describing this court as racist and deals with double-standard method He said that if the ICC should have given concern to the crimes being committed in Gaza, Afghanistan and Iraq if is really an international court Dr. Ismail has lauded the refuse of the African Union, the Arab League, the Non Allied Movements and many countries to deal with the decision of the International Criminal Court Dr. Ismail said that his talks with Amro Musa included the situation in Sudan and preparations for the International Donors Conference for East Sudan, scheduled to be held in Kuwait by the end of next November
Floods displace more than 10000 people in Jonglei State (Mirayafm) The Commissioner of Akobo County in Jonglei State, Goi Jooyul Yool, has said over 10,000 people have been displaced by floods, following heavy rain in the area last week. Speaking to Radio Miraya, Goi called on humanitarian organizations and UN agencies to extend urgent humanitarian assistance to the area and provide air transportation since the county is inaccessible by road. The commissioner added that the only primary school in the county has been damaged by the floods. Meanwhile, different areas of North Darfur State experienced heavy rains on Sunday, recording the highest rainfall in decades, flooding the area causing huge losses to the residents. Over one thousand two hundred homes have been drawn into the high current streams, severely damaging the citizens' properties.
Minister of Oil Inspects Petro-Trans Company (SUNA) The Minister of Oil, Dr Laul Achwel Deng, accompanied by the State Minister at the ministry, Engineer Ali Ahmed Osman, Monday visited the headquarters of Petro-Trans Company in Khartoum The minister and state minister called on the employees at the company to exert more efforts and to work seriously to guarantee expansion of the company to operate all over the country, especially in south Sudan and the neigbouring countries, to realize more accomplishments and supporting the peace and unity process The General Director of the company Abdul-Aziz Dafalla, reviewed the works of the company and its various activities and future plans
Central Bank of Sudan Announces an Increase of Oil Exports (SV) The Central Bank of Sudan (CBOS) announced an increase in Oil and non-oil exports during Q1 of the current year, compared to the previous year. Dr. Sabir Mohammed El Hassan, CBOS' Governor, attributed such increase to the increase of prices despite a decrease in export quantities. He said non-oil exports increased b y 129%. In his periodical report submitted to the Economic Sector at the council of ministers last Thursday, the Central Bank's Governor stated that imports increased by 6%, attributing such increase to the increase of the volume of cloth, foodstuff, raw materials and transport means imports. The economic sector reviewed in its meeting last week headed by the Minister of Finance and National Economy a report on the structural plan of Khartoum State submitted by Dr. Abdel Rahman El Khidir, the Governor of the State of Khartoum. In his report, the Governor of Khartoum State stated that the plan aims formulating an overall strategy for regional and urban development. He stated that it was important that the basic requirements for the capital development plan be in place and the construction of an external ring road as a natural boundary for the demarcation of the urban area. The sector affirmed the importance of linking the plan to an overall national plan, with consideration given to flexibility in the execution to meet changes. Further, the sector stressed the necessity of vertical expansion, taking into consideration aesthetical and security matters and coordination with other concerned parties with respect to the moving of ministries to ensure proper addressing of any execution obstructions. The sector further affirmed the importance of coordination with the Ministry of Finance for arranging the necessary funds, either through partnerships or through other forms of finance in addition to strategic coordination with other neighbouring states.
